Pan-Grilled Apple & Sausage Breakfast

Updated: Nov 3

ree

I spent the weekend on a friend’s apple farm — the kind of quiet place where mornings smell like dew and wood smoke. We picked apples straight from the trees, and I brought home a box full of them, still cool from the orchard. By Sunday, I couldn’t resist turning a few into breakfast.

This little skillet meal came together without much planning — just butter, sausage, and those fresh apples caramelizing until my kitchen smelled like apple-pie heaven. As they cooked, the apples and sausage released their juices into the butter, making a golden, sweet-salty glaze that turned into a dressing all on its own.

When the pan cooled just enough, I tossed in a handful of salad greens to soak up the drippings — a small trick that makes cleanup easier and breakfast feel special.

Some weekends feed your soul before you even sit down to eat.

Here’s how to make it.

Pan-Grilled Apple & Sausage Breakfast Ingredients

  • A nonstick pan

  • A teaspoon of butter (or a little more if you like extra dressing)

  • One apple, halved

  • Pre-cooked sausage — I used chicken apple sausage

  • A handful of salad greens

To Make

  • Melt the butter over low-medium heat, then add the sausages and apples, cut side down.

  • Let the apples caramelize until they turn golden and curl slightly at the edges.

  • When everything looks glossy and smells irresistible, remove the pan from heat.

  • Toss in your salad greens while the pan is still warm and let them drink up that apple-butter magic.

  • Serve warm, with a fork in one hand and a quiet morning in the other.

And, if you ever tire of apples (though I don’t see how), try slices of pear, plum, or pumpkin instead — just as cozy, just as good.

Pantry & Tools That Help

If you’d like to try this recipe the easy way, here are a few tools I keep on hand:

  • Nonstick Skillet – perfect for caramelizing apples without sticking.

  • Spatula Set – gentle on your pan and great for tossing greens.

  • Tongs – for turning sausages and apples without breaking them.
