A Little Sunshine - Ginger, Tumeric Tonic

California finally got a good day of rain, and I couldn’t help myself — out came the boots, and I was off walking through puddles like a kid who’d never seen water before. The next morning, I woke up with a scratchy throat and a lesson in moderation.
When I feel a cold coming on, I turn to my old kitchen standby — a bright, golden tonic made from simple things I almost always have on hand. Nothing fancy, just citrus, all things yellow or orange, and a few warm spices.
Ginger, turmeric, honey, lemon - it’s the kind of recipe that makes the whole kitchen smell like care.
You can’t rush getting better. But you can make the waiting softer — one golden cup at a time.

I gathered what I had — a few oranges and lemons that had fallen from the tree after the storm, a knob of ginger, carrots, a spoonful of honey, and a pinch of turmeric. Everything orange and golden in the fridge went into the blender. The color alone could lift your spirits before the first sip.
Pour it into my favorite drink glass (a Wholefoods 365 Organic Morello Cherry Fruit Spread jar), wrap up in something soft, and sip slowly.
It’s a reminder that sometimes, healing doesn’t come from a bottle — it comes from small acts of care. From warmth. From color. From a kitchen that’s been through this before.
